Rhiannon - My name is Ariel.

May 25th, 2006

Really my name is Rhiannon McGavin, but Ariel is whom I am playing in The Tempest by William Shakespeare. I just corrected my mom in changing who to whom.

I am pretty good at english and I like to speak with an English accent sometimes. I am a second grader here in Los Angeles. I love to read Harry Potter books.

Ariel, my character, is a spirit that was trapped in a tree by the evil island witch, Sycorax. Ariel is a lovable, sassy character that spices up The Tempest.

I like my part because I am pretty much a spirit myself. My mom says that all the time.

I really wanted the Miranda part until I saw how much more fun Ariel is. Talia plays Miranda. Ariel is fun because, well, she’s pretty much the magical source for Prospero.

She can do anything whatever, whenever. Lily, Annika, and Nola are some of my fairies. They help me and themselves to get free….

Prospero, is the island wizard, played by Harry. I really like Harry, as a friend.

Shakespeare acting is fun because it sorta feels like you are speaking a different language, the old English language. I can’t believe people talked like that, it sounds sorta cool. The funny thing is kids at my school probably wouldn’t understand a word of it. I think that’s too bad. I think all kids should learn Shakespeare because it is a cool language and the stories are really funny except for Romeo and Juliet.

By the way, my cat is named Romeo. I shortened it to Romi, especially when I found out he was a she-!

ta ta for now,
rhiannon

I want to talk about the day we fed the homeless people.

May 23rd, 2006

They were smiling. Nola and me fed them cornbread. They had missing some teeth. They felt happy when they saw children were giving them dinner. I felt happy to give them some cornbread. Some of them wanted more and some had enough.

Today I experienced being in love but energetic.

It was very fun.

Miranda is sometimes a girly- girl but not in this scene.

Georgia - What is the Tempest?

May 11th, 2006

What is The Tempest?
The Tempest is a play by William Shakespeare it is also a play that the Drama Club will be performing.

Who is my charater in the Tempest and what is he/she like?
Sycorax is my character. She’s not in the original play but she was written for me. She is the mother of Caliban and she used to rule the island.

Do I know what I’m saying when I speak Shakespeare?
Yes I do. It’s hard to understand sometimes how his characters speak but you can understand their emotions by their actions. You can also feel the emotions in the rhythm of the language.

The excercise “mad, sad, happy”…how it feels?
I always felt that it was a little weird but, it helps you warm up your emotions.

In this community, I have learned to….
Respect everyone and everything.Listen to people and try to achieve something everyday.

The stone ceremony…
I think it’s a good way to reward children when they have done something well.

What role I have and what role I wanted or wish I had…
I really didn’t want another role. I’m fine with what I’m given.

How do I practice respect here? What ways do we earn Wisdom/Kindness stones?
We pay attention to the instructors and don’t talk while they are talking and respect their wishes.

Is rehearsing hard?
Not for me but I am the oldest kid.

Am I considerate when others have a turn on stage?
Yes. I share the stage with a lot of people but I do love going on stage. I love going on stage and trying out different characters because it gives me a chance to see life through a different perspective.
